01
General information only
The guides and articles on this website describe how building rules generally work in Queensland. They are written for home owners in Redland City and bayside Brisbane, and they are deliberately plain rather than exhaustive.
They are not a substitute for advice from a licensed building certifier, engineer, plumber, council officer or lawyer who has looked at your specific property, plans and circumstances.
02
Accuracy and currency
Each guide is checked against primary sources — the QBCC, Redland City Council, the National Construction Code, the Queensland Development Code and the relevant Australian Standards — and lists those sources at the end so you can read the original.
- Every guide shows the date it was last reviewed. Information can be out of date the day after that.
- Thresholds, fees and standards change by regulation and amendment without notice.
- Overlays, mapping and planning scheme provisions differ property by property, sometimes street by street.
- Where sources disagree, we say so rather than picking one silently.
If you spot something that looks wrong or out of date, please tell us — we would rather fix it than leave it.
03
What you should still do yourself
- Confirm the approval pathway for your property with a licensed building certifier or Redland City Council.
- Check any contractor licence directly on the QBCC register before you sign or pay anything.
- Get a building and pest inspection before you buy or start work on an older home.
- Read your contract, including the deposit, progress payment and variation clauses, before signing.

Photographs and examples
Project photographs show work completed by Manttan Construction and are provided as examples of finish and workmanship. They are not a promise of a particular outcome, material, price or timeframe for your project — those come from your quote and contract.
